Sciences and Mathematics Awards Presented during Convocation of Scholars
JONESBORO – The College of Sciences and Mathematics at Arkansas State University recognized its most outstanding students who graduated or are graduating in 2022-23, according to Dr. Jennifer Bouldin, interim dean of the college. The Convocation of Scholars ceremony was held Tuesday at the Cooper Alumni Center.
The Chancellor’s Scholar award was presented to Mary Elise Schultz of Pace, Fla. The Chancellor’s Scholar is the graduating student with the highest overall grade point average in the respective academic college. She also received the 4.0 Scholar Award.
The departmental awards are presented to the graduate in each degree program who has most excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to the department.

Biological Sciences
Claire Greene of Conway, Bachelor of Science (BS), biological sciences (pre-professional studies); Aiyana Dawson of Fort Smith, BS, biological sciences (zoology emphasis); Jennifer Hinojosa of Augusta, BS, environmental science; Caitlin Jones of St. Charles, Ark., BS, biological sciences (biology evolution, ecology and organismal biology emphasis); Joseph Schroeder of Siloam Springs, BS, wildlife, fisheries and conservation; and Nathan May of Newport, BS, biotechnology.
Chemistry and Physics
Izzeldin Ahmed of Tuti, Sudan, and Scout Weatherford of Marmaduke, BA, chemistry, and Shealyn Chestnut of Havana, BS, chemistry; Robert Smith of Beebe, BS, physics; Maddie Lubinski of Cabot, Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE), general studies in chemistry.
Mathematics and Statistics
Madison Eastburn of Eureka Springs, BSE, mathematics; Amanda Sakalares of Rogers, BS, mathematics; Mary Elise Schultz of Pace, Fla., BS, actuarial sciences.
Graduate Programs
Graduate student awards were presented to six master’s degree students and two doctoral degree candidates.
The students and their respective programs were: Bradley Fultz of Bryant, Master of Arts (MA), biological sciences; Emily Field of Fayetteville, Master of Science (MS), biological sciences; Carley Garrison of Thayer, Mo., MS, mathematics; Dongqin Zhang of China, Master of Science in Education (MSE), mathematics; Zachary Ellenburg of Jonesboro, MS, statistics; Victoria Lydy of Carbondale, Ill., MS, environmental sciences; Uddhab Karki of Nepal and Krishna Deo Sharma of Saptari, Nepal, Ph.D., molecular biosciences.
