Summer Commencement Set for August 5

JONESBORO — A record 949 students will receive degrees at Arkansas State University’s 2016 summer graduation ceremony, Friday, Aug. 5. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center, 217 Olympic Drive, in Jonesboro.

Of the summer class, 43 candidates are graduating with honors, including 21 cum laude, 17 magna cum laude and five with university honors from the Honors College.

Dr. Lynita Cooksey, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, will confer the degrees.

Kaitlin Sellers of Hardy, who is receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science, will address the group on behalf of the graduating class. She is graduating magna cum laude and was the recipient of an individual award for the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sports Sciences in the spring.

She is also a seven-time Chancellor’s List member, joining that elite group each semester since fall 2013.

Dr. Mike McDaniel, professor of communication disorders, will speak on behalf of the A-State Faculty Association.

Following the commencement ceremony, there is a reception for all graduates and families at the north mezzanine with punch and cookies.
