Survivor Tim Mousseau to Begin Sexual Assault Awareness Week, April 2
JONESBORO – Sexual assault survivor Tim Mousseau will speak at Arkansas State University Monday, April 2, as the opening address of Sexual Assault Awareness week.
The event, part of A-State’s Pack Pact campaign, will begin at 3 p.m. at the Reng Student Union Auditorium. Admission is free and all members of the university community – students, faculty and staff – are invited to attend.
An Air Force kid who never lived anywhere longer than four years, Mousseau has traveled the country and the world. Working as a motivational speaker specializing in the areas of innovation and leadership, he has also found a mission working for his fraternity, Sigma Chi, as well as speaking at close to 175 campuses across the country through the National Interfraternity Council.
Mousseau discovered he was the victim of sexual assault through a photograph and subsequent blackmail campaign. With no memory of the event, he struggled through years of silence until deciding to write about what happened to him. The reaction from hundreds made him realize he had an opportunity through recalling his journey to help other victims and to reset conversations related to how communities address sexual assault.
Focusing on how to empower a supportive campus culture focused on reducing sexual assault and promoting healthy prevention, Mousseau provides strategies on how to understand the difference between cultures of shame and cultures of acceptance when creating safe environments for conversations about sexual assault.
Mousseau’s talk opens the week, which includes the unveiling of a unique denim installation by the A-State Department of Art and Design and additional programs from April 2-6.
Leading up to Sexual Assault Awareness week will be the Pact Fact Walk, scheduled for Tuesday, March 13. The campus walk of unity with survivors begins during the noon hour. Participants will follow a trail of sexual assault statistics on their mile-and-a-half walk. Registration is free, and the first 150 registrants for the walk will receive Pact Fact Walk t-shirts. The Pack Pact to Act for Change Together at Arkansas State is a series of events throughout the spring 2018 semester designed to raise awareness of the issues of sexual assault and to work toward positive changes within the culture.
The Pact calls on all members of the A-State community to act with integrity and respect, to not be a bystander and to positively change the culture because Every Red Wolf Counts. It encourages everyone to work for the well-being of the entire campus community.
