Sympathy to the Family and Former Colleagues of Nancy Young, Emeritus Instructor
JONESBORO – The university community extends sympathy to the family, friends and former colleagues of Nancy Young of Jonesboro, emeritus instructor in English, who died Friday, Dec. 6.
Young served as a dedicated member of the Arkansas State University faculty for 51 years, from 1966 until 2017.
She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at A-State before starting her career in teaching, first in Kentucky then in Arkansas. She served on numerous departmental and university committees as well as being the academic adviser to many English majors, touching countless students' lives along the way.
She also served as the chair of the university’s 75th Anniversary Committee in 1984-85, and was a member of the American Association of University Professors.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Clay Young IV and Welby Stuck Young, and their families. Visitation and funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 9. Her complete obituary is online.

The clock tower of the Dean B. Ellis Library will be darkened Monday evening in memorial tribute to Young for her contributions to higher education and Arkansas State University.
