Theatre to Present 'Fringe Festival' Showcase, Nov. 14-19

JONESBORO – Arkansas State University’s Department of Theatre will present “Fringe Festival,” an event showcasing a collection of short plays, opera scenes, solo performances and variety acts.

“Fringe Festival” is presented in three sections, Fringe A, Fringe B, and Fringe C. Each section offers a different combination of performances. Audiences may attend one, two, or all three sections of “Fringe Festival.”

Fringe A performances include an original film score, Declan Feenan’s play “Limbo,” an original dance titled “Le Do Thoil,” and a collection of solo and duet scenes from plays and musicals. Fringe A will be presented Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. & Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m.

Fringe B performances include Murphy Guyer’s comedy “The American Century,” an original dance titled “Our Playgrounds,” and a collection of opera scenes and original musical numbers. Fringe B will be performed Friday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. & Monday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m.

Fringe C performances include Ellen Byron’s comedy “Graceland,” and a collection of opera and musical theatre scenes. Fringe C performances are Sunday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. & Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m.

All performances are presented in Simpson Theatre of Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Dr.

The cast includes theatre majors Dawson Stevens of Springdale, Jonathan Clark of Batesville, Mallory Smith of Jonesboro, Kori Denison of Batesville, Madison Stewart of Trumann, Abigail Gray of Jonesboro, Kaitlyn Rose Vacco of Mountain Home, Alex Harper of Harrisburg, Whitley J. Fore of Harrisburg, Fernanda Posadas of North Little Rock, Grace Dial of Paragould, Bailey Larrison of Little Rock, Hayley Scott of North Little Rock, and Angela Lovelace of Indianapolis.

Others in the cast include Holly Henson of Paragould, Taylor Watkins of Paragould, Quaine Hogan of Jonesboro, Genghong Cai, of Guangdong, China, Jennifer Parr of Little Rock, Allie Summers of Jonesboro, Madison Wilson of Paragould, Oscar Quiroz of Lake City, Joanna Conrad of Jonesboro, Madison Jackson of Pine Bluff, Quinton Sanders of Jonesboro, criminology, sociology, and geography major Zachary Proctor of Jonesboro, and psychology major Sydnie Walker of Jonesboro.  Henson, Watkins, Hogan, Cai, and Parr are vocal performance majors. Summers and Wilson are vocal music education majors. Quiroz and Conrad are music majors. Jackson and Sanders are marketing majors.

The artistic director of “Fringe Festival” is Brandon Sterrett, instructor of theatre. Student directors include Precious McCullough, a senior theatre major from Clarendon, Bryce Moore, a theatre major from White Hall, and Claire Thomas, a junior theatre major from Batesville. Maria Fasciano, instructor of voice, serves as musical director. Collaborative pianist Emily Trapp Jenkins is the rehearsal accompanist. Choreography is by Brianna Larson, instructor of dance.

The technical director and set designer is Jeff McLaughlin, assistant professor of theatre. Costume design is by Claire Abernathy, associate professor of theatre. Costume designer for “The American Century” is Reilly Heffer, a junior theatre major from Little Rock. Associate hair and makeup designer is Michaela Partridge, a theatre and Spanish major from Leola. Sound design is by Caisa Sanburg, assistant professor of theatre. Lighting design is by theatre major Eli Webb.

The stage manager is Katelyn Stanton of Trumann. Assistant stage managers are Whitley J. Fore of Harrisburg, Tinah Carter of Jonesboro, and Carson Ecker of Bryant. The properties masters are Deronai Sims of West Memphis and Lauren Wilcox of Jonesboro. The house manager is Peyton Miller of Jonesboro. Stanton, Fore, Carter, Ecker, Sims, Wilcox, and Miller are theatre majors.

The master electrician is theatre major Elizabeth Escobedo of Russellville, and Cody Preston, a strategic communications major from Bono, serves as the assistant master electrician. The light board operator is Alexus Leonard, an English major from Corning. The sound board operator is theatre major Hannah Martin of Blytheville. Angela Lovelace, a theatre major from Indianapolis, serves as the publicist. Wardrobe crew includes Alissa Hughes, a freshman theatre major from Monette.

Tickets for “Fringe Festival” can be purchased at AState.edu/tickets or by calling the A-State Box Office Monday-Friday from 8:30-5 p.m. at (870) 972-2781. Groups of 10 or more should call the box office regarding group sales. Tickets to individual performances are $6, while a $12 Festival pass includes admission to performances of Fringe A, B, and C.
