Tickets Are On Sale for Penn Mutual CRC 7s Rugby Tournament
JONESBORO — Arkansas State University’s rugby team will open the 2016 spring season this month and tickets are already on sale for the 2016 Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby 7s Championship tournament.
A-State, a back-to-back 7s national champion in 2012 and 2013, has a goal to sell 300 tickets for the two-day tournament, Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5, in Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa. A two-day Arkansas State field level team pass is $38, a 41 percent savings from the public price of $64.
“The A-State rugby team urges fans to assist with the purchase of our allotment of 300 tickets to support their play in the tournament,” said Matt Huckaby, executive director of student health and wellness and administrator of the rugby program. “Of course, we hope to see our fans at the tournament, but if they can’t make the trip, their ticket purchase will be put to good use.”
Huckaby noted that the A-State rugby program will once again work to donate any unused purchased tickets to local area high school teams in Philadelphia and other organizations.
There are two ways to purchase tickets, including clicking on the link http://www.usasevenscrc.com/tickets/arkansasstate. Also, fans may contact Huckaby at mhuckaby@astate.edu to purchase tickets directly. Tickets will be mailed or delivered to the buyer or tickets may be donated to ASU Rugby, P.O. Box 479, State University, AR 72467. They will be distributed to groups that will support A-State’s play at the tournament.
In 2015, the Red Wolves were upset in the quarterfinals of the Penn Mutual 7s championship by dropping a narrow 7-5 decision to Arizona. A-State had knocked off three tough opponents to make it to the quarterfinal round, defeating Michigan, Texas and UCLA during the first day’s play.
First-year head coach Shaun Potgieter and the team will open the spring schedule Saturday, Feb. 27, hosting Davenport University in both varsity and junior varsity matches. Play gets underway at 1 p.m. at the ASU Rugby Pitch, 501 Red Wolf Trail.
