Top Journalism and Mass Communication Students Inducted into Kappa Tau Alpha

JONESBORO – Seventeen Arkansas State University students were recently inducted into the Kappa Tau Alpha (KTA) honor society. KTA recognizes academic excellence and promotes scholarship in journalism and mass communication. Membership is a mark of high distinction and honor.

The new inductees are:

Sierra S. Cottrell of Grapevine; Erica Molina Johnson of Lakeland, Fla.; Halley M. Gainey of Gaffney, S.C.; An Phan of Hue, Vietnam; Lori Schaeffer of Hamden, Conn.; Megan Jacobs of Riverside, Calif.; Melanie Elaine Dean of Ozark; Misty S. Raper and Rebecca F. Williams of Cabot; Tamara V. Jefferson, Yusra Alzahrani, and Lara Ann Woloszyn of Jonesboro; Kathleen Conrad of Farmingville, N.Y.; Casey Van Asche of Siloam Springs; Cynthia Williams of Chesterfield, Mo.; Heidi Strohm Koger of Burlingame, Kan.; and Samantha R. Tussel of Dallas.

Phan was named the top undergraduate scholar and Alzahrani the top graduate scholar for the 2023 class.

The seventh oldest national honor society, Kappa Tau Alpha was founded in 1910 at the University of Missouri, site of the world’s first school of journalism. The society has 99 chapters and has inducted around 75,000 students since its founding in 1910. KTA, a non-profit organization, is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, the nation’s only certifying agency for college and university honor societies.

Dr. Holly Kathleen Hall, professor of strategic communication, serves as the A-State chapter adviser and was national president from 2018-20. More information about Kappa Tau Alpha is available online.
