In just ten days, the A-State Psychology Club raised $1,440.01 as part of the 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s – sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, a nonprofit organization that advocates for extensive research and care for those with this neurocognitive disorder. The Psychology Club took second place in a good-hearted competition against other fundraising teams across the region for this year’s event. In addition to private fundraising efforts by club members, the club held a highly successful bake sale in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences to raise money.
Club President Stephen Berry stated that “it was incredible to watch club members become so passionate and involved in a way I had never seen before. Quickly, we all became emotionally invested in a cause that touched our hearts; this showed in our avid time spent on fundraising. One club member told me that it brought out a side of them that they did not realize they had, which included getting involved at school more so than ever before. I am so proud of everyone for their efforts.”
Courtney McCullough, the Vice President of Events for the club, worked hard behind-the-scenes to help make our successful fundraising possible, becoming something that held a special place in her heart. “It was an amazing experience, and the Psychology Club far exceeded my expectations for fundraising. I was honored to be able to raise money with the club for such a great cause.”
After completing our intense days of fundraising, the Psychology Club is now looking towards their next project – a collaborative effort with the Jonesboro Kindergarten Center to help form a clothing closet for children in need. As students of psychology and as advocates of people, the Psychology Club aims to make the world a better place to the best of our abilities while learning more about one another.
