Assistant Professor of School Counseling

My name is Allison Paolini. I have worked as an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education for the past 8 years. Prior to working in academia, I worked as an Elementary School Counselor at a Title I school in Tampa, Florida. In regard to my teaching philosophy, I am extremely student centered and strive to deliver curricula that is evidence based, data driven, engaging, relevant, experiential, interactive, and practical so that all activities completed in class can be utilized in students' future work setting.  I believe in the importance of building strong relationships and having open communication with students, as this helps to foster learning, empowerment, as well as augments personal and professional growth. I work tenaciously to prepare students in becoming transformational school counselors.  My main areas of research interest include social emotional learning and its impact on reducing gun violence, as well as the impact of social emotional learning on students’ performance and career readiness. I reside in Charlotte, North Carolina with my 6-year old son, Jordan, and Samoyed dog, Coconut.
