Biography
Born in Monroe, La., Terrance Armstard studied photography and photojournalism at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, acquiring a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 and a Master of Arts in communication in 2006.
Terrance began working as a freelance photojournalist in 2001 for newspapers such as USA Today, Newsday (New York), the Times Picayune (New Orleans), The Advocate (Baton Rouge) as well as the Associated Press.
Terrance has attended workshops at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla. as well as the Truth With A Camera (TWAC) workshop in Norfolk, Va. He holds memberships in NPPA (National Press Photographers Association), NABJ (National Association of Black Journalists), SPJ (Society of Professional Journalists) ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers), SND (Society of News Design) and SPD (The Society of Publication Designers).
In 2015, he began working as a photojournalist at the El Dorado News-Times where he served as staff/chief photographer, news editor and interim managing editor. He continues to work as a freelance photojournalist, editorial and advertising photographer taking on assignments covering the mid-South region.
Terrance currently teaches civic reporting, multimedia reporting, editing, photojournalism, digital photography, desktop publishing and digital design courses in the School of Media & Journalism at Arkansas State University.
He serves as faculty advisor for A-State SPJ student chapter, A-State Photography Club and Delta Digital News Service, SMJ’s online student news service.
