College of Nursing and Health Professions Recognizes Top Graduating Students
JONESBORO – The College of Nursing and Health Professions at Arkansas State University recognized its most outstanding graduating students Monday evening during its annual Convocation of Scholars honors program, according to Dr. Susan Hanrahan, dean of the college.
Taylor Harrell Kirby of El Paso, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing major, was recognized as the 2017 Chancellor’s Scholar for having the highest grade point average (4.0) in the college.
Six additional students received the 4.0 Graduate Award for having a perfect grade point average. They are Rachael Bumpous of Pleasant Plains, Joshua Dye of Jonesboro, Mallory Morris of Bono, Hope Satterwhite of Cave City, Adara Williford of Sherwood, and Min Xu of Shanghai, China. When there is a tie, the Chancellor's Scholar is the student with the most credit hours.
Forty students were selected by faculty in the individual degree programs to receive the awards for outstanding achievement, leadership and service to their respective departments and degree programs, both in the classroom and in the clinical experience. School of Nursing
Award winners in the School of Nursing were: Amber Calender of Sulphur Rock and Angela Jones of Jonesboro, Doctor of Nursing Practice; Michael Anderson of Jonesboro, and Christopher Zumback of Jackson, Tenn., MSN, adult health nursing; Joshua McIntosh of Newark, MSN, family nurse practitioner; Lee Sader of Mayflower, Kasey Colburn of El Paso, and Amanda Massey of Cave City, MSN, nurse anesthesia; Lauren Garner of Hoxie, Min Xu of Shanghai, China, and Taylor Harrell Kirby of El Paso, BSN, nursing; and Alyssa Pendergrass of Mountain Home, Taylor Sanders of Calico Rock, and Heather Cantrell of Marion, AAS, nursing.
Dept. of Clinical Laboratory Sciences
Award winners in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences and their respective degree programs were: Lisa Davis of Jonesboro, AAS, clinical laboratory science and Logan Meurer of Lake City, BS, clinical laboratory science, who also received the Donald Vollman Jr. MD award.
Dept. of Communication Disorders
In the Department of Communication Disorders, the top students and their respective degree programs were: Heaven Huffmaster of Rogers, BS, communication disorders; and Hannah Campbell of Jonesboro, Master of Communication Disorders.
Dept. of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences
The students recognized in the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences were: Rebecca Gill of Walnut Ridge, BSRS, diagnostic medical sonography; Brant Arender of Jonesboro, BSRS, radiation therapy; and Taylor Parkinson of Paragould, BSRS, magnetic resonance imaging.
Dept. of Physical Therapy
The Department of Physical Therapy recognized Chelsea Patton of Jonesboro and Mollie Matthews of Batesville, DPT, doctor of physical therapy; and Jon Hamilton of Jonesboro and K-Leigh Smith of Manila, AAS, physical therapist assistant.
Dept. of Occupational Therapy
The Department of Occupational Therapy recognized Larry Trey George of Newark, OTA, occupational therapy assistant.
Dept. of Social Work
The award winners in the Department of Social Work were Joshua Dye of Jonesboro and Adara Williford of Sherwood, Bachelor of Social Work; and Wesley Gautreaux of Brookland, Master of Social Work.
Kaily Nix of Jonesboro was named program academic scholar in the Bachelor of Science in Dietetics program.
Disaster Preparedness Program
The students recognized in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management program were: Elizabeth Jones of Jonesboro, MS, disaster preparedness and emergency management; Cristi Harvey of Jonesboro, Amy Martens of Batesville, Charles Riley of Jonesboro, and Mackenzie Carr of Kennett, MO, BS, disaster preparedness and emergency management; and William Scheding of Los Osos, Calif., AAS, disaster preparedness and emergency management.
Health Studies Program
Brooke Graham of Jonesboro was recognized as the outstanding scholar in the BS in health studies program.
